Ingredient Notes
Please note that this is just a quick overview — head to the full recipe for all ingredient amounts and instructions.
Sauce: Pizza sauce or marinara sauce is perfect for making pizza bowls. You can make your own at home, but I prefer to use a sauce straight from the jar for ease. It really cuts down on prep time!
Pizza Crust: I find that a chopped baguette has the perfect texture to mimic a thick pizza crust. You can use gluten-free or conventional, or even low-carb bread to make this keto friendly. For a gluten-free option, I highly recommend Schar Gluten Free Baguette.
Toppings: I like to use thinly sliced red onion, minced garlic, pepperoncini rings, kalamata olives, and fresh basil. You can add whatever toppings are your favorite. See below for a list of recommendations!
Cheese: Both mozzarella and parmesan cheese are added to make this pizza bowl recipe extra cheesy. Use vegetarian parmesan if needed, or vegan mozzarella and parmesan alternatives to make this 100% plant-based.
Herbs: Fresh herbs add an amazing burst of flavor! I love fresh basil to make these pizza bowls taste a bit like a Margherita pizza. In a pinch, add Italian seasoning instead.
How to Make Homemade Pizza Bowls
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- For the first layer, spoon approximately 1/4 cup of pizza sauce into each ramekin.
- Divide the chopped baguette amongst the four ramekins.
- Top each ramekin with a handful of toppings of choice.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese into each ramekin.
- Spoon 1/4 cup of tomato sauce over the cheese in each ramekin.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup parmesan cheese over the sauce in each ramekin. Top with some chopped fresh herbs like basil or oregano or sprinkle each pizza bowl with a touch of Italian seasoning.
- Bake for 20 minutes or bubbling and beginning to turn golden.
- Enjoy!
Optional Toppings for Pizza Bowls
There are so many delicious toppings out there! What are your favorite pizza toppings? Here are a few of mine:
- Bell peppers (red, yellow, orange, or green pepper)
- Pickled jalapeños
- Black olives
- Vegetarian pepperoni
- Diced tomato
- Vegan sausage
- Feta cheese
Expert Tips
- Be sure to bake the pizza bowls in oven-safe bowls. Pyrex, glass, or ceramic are great options.
- Following the keto diet? Turn this into a Keto Pizza Bowl by using keto-friendly bread for the crust. On the other hand, you can make it a crustless pizza bowl recipe by skipping the bread entirely and adding more toppings and cheese.
- Feeling adventurous? Make your own pizza dough to break up into this bowl! I have so many great pizza crust recipes: Gluten-free, millet, brown rice, coconut flour, quinoa, red lentil, and almond flour!
- Need this to be vegan? Use vegan mozzarella and parmesan! I like Violife’s options. They taste great!
Serve with a side of my Pizza Aioli or a little bang bang sauce.

A great weeknight dinner (love them on a Friday when I’m lazy) and obviously the kiddos devoured them. Definitely a win!
Loved these! I put them out for a family gathering and the guests loved customizing their own bowls. Great ingredient suggestions! How fun!
Delicious! I was worried about the bread getting soggy, but the baguette holds up well and has the chewy texture of pizza crust. Excellent!
