A Note From Kristen

Planning what to serve for upcoming holiday parties? I have a simple dessert that feels just as festive without all the heaviness. It’s a nice change from the creamy fruit salads that usually show up this time of year. I love using fresh ingredients for this one, but you can easily adjust the fruit based on what’s in season or what you enjoy most. It’s a quick little break from the more demanding holiday dishes. I hope you love it!

Ingredient Notes

Please keep in mind that this is just a quick overview. Visit the full recipe for amounts and instructions!

  • Pomegranate Arils: Add a ruby-red touch and juicy pops of sweetness that brighten the fresh fruit salad.
  • Orange Segments: Bring fresh-tasting, citrusy notes that keep the salad lively.
  • Green Kiwi: Adds a gentle tang that keeps the Christmas fruit salad from tasting one-note. Its soft texture blends well with the other fruits. Green kiwis tend to hold their shape better than golden varieties.
  • Pear: Contributes a mild sweetness to soften the sharper flavors in the mixture.
  • Lime Juice: Gives the fruits a zesty lift to tie all the flavors of the holiday fruit salad recipe together. It also helps slow down the browning, especially for pears.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup: Sweetens the mix without overpowering the fruits’ natural flavors.
  • Ground Cinnamon: Adds a warm, holiday twist, making the salad feel more appropriate for the season.

Kristen’s Top Tips

  • Acidity helps slow down oxidation, so toss your cut fruit in lime juice immediately after cutting to preserve the fruit.
  • Cut the fruit into larger, uniform, bite-sized pieces to help slow the release of juices and keep the texture firmer.
  • Use a sharp knife when cutting the fruit to avoid bruising them too much.
  • Try stirring in fresh mint, a splash of vanilla, or swapping the lime juice for lemon or orange juice. You can also sprinkle toasted coconut or nuts on top, fold in coconut yogurt or whipped cream, or mix in fruits like raspberries, bananas, grapes, apples, strawberries, or blueberries.

Notes

Storage
Store any leftover fruit salad in an airtight container and keep it toward the back of the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The fruit may release some juices, but the flavor will still be great. Just give it a quick toss before serving.
You can also freeze the fruit for longer storage, and it makes an excellent addition to smoothies later on.

I absolutely love this. The different fruit flavors complement each other well. I wanted to do a test run before having family over and serving it. It was delicious. I actually made it a second time for just ‘us’ before sharing it with guests 😉. It’s just fresh and colorful and a great, light dessert.
