I love a good homemade salad dressing. Salad dressings are so easy to make at home and usually taste 10x better than the store-bought variety (in my opinion!). This citrus vinaigrette is no exception! It comes together in just a few minutes and absolutely enhances and elevates any salad or dish it is used in. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!

Ingredients and Substitutes

Extra-virgin olive oil: This a great recipe for using a good quality extra-virgin olive oil in, as it is largely oil-based and the better tasting oil you use, the better the dressing will be. Having said that, when I am out of olive oil, avocado oil is my second choice.

Orange juice: Fresh orange juice or bottled works just fine here. Not only does it add some nice citrus tang, but it works as a natural sweetener too.

Lemon juice: A touch of lemon works with orange juice for an explosion of citrus flavor. Freshly squeezed or bottled will get the job done.

Apple cider vinegar: The flavor of apple cider vinegar really works well with the citrus components in this dressing recipe, all working to enhance each other. If you do not have apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar will give a similar effect.

Honey: A small bit of honey just works well with citrus, in addition to adding a depth of flavor with its natural sweetener. If you are vegan or do not have honey on hand, agave syrup is a great alternative.

Salt and pepper: Salt and pepper work to bring out the best flavors in this vinaigrette recipe!

  • Skip the creamy mayo-based dressings and opt for this citrus vinaigrette when dressing a potato salad.
  • This dressing works well with salads that contain beets, feta cheese, red onion, and/or goat cheese.
  • You can use this tangy dressing as a marinade for proteins like tofu or tempeh.
