This Christmas spice blend recipe adds warmth and depth to simple and festive dishes alike. It brings together the cozy flavors that make holiday treats unmistakably seasonal, and a little goes a long way in baked goods, snacks, breakfast plates, and even warm drinks!

A Note From Kristen
I started making my own Christmas spice blend because I wanted a mix that captured the flavors I reach for most. This version is warm, fragrant, and surprisingly versatile, and just a small pinch makes anything feel a bit more nostalgic. It quickly became my go-to seasoning of the holiday season, and it also makes a thoughtful little gift for friends and family. I hope it adds the same touch of nostalgia to your dishes that it does to mine. Enjoy!

How to Make Christmas Spice
01
GROUND SPICES
If you’re working with ground spices, place everything in a small bowl or jar and stir until fully blended.

02
WHOLE SPICES
If you’re starting with whole spices, break them into smaller pieces and grind them in a clean coffee or spice grinder. Sift the mixture and pulse any larger bits again until the texture is even.

03
STORE AND USE
Use right away or keep in an airtight container until needed. Enjoy!

Serving Ideas
- Stir into plain oatmeal or use as the primary seasoning when making homemade granola.
- Add a pinch to hot chocolate, coffee, or chai drinks.
- Sprinkle over baked apples or pears.
- Add to sweet potato mash with a little coconut milk (delish!).
- Sprinkle over pancakes or waffles.
- Sprinkle over ice cream or yogurt.

Kristen’s Top Tips
- If desired, lightly toast whole spices, such as cloves, cardamom, and star anise, to release their aromatic compounds.
- Grinding the whole spices right before blending helps preserve their volatile, aromatic oils, making them more flavorful.
- You can also let the spice blend rest in a sealed jar for 24 hours before using, allowing its flavors to settle.
- Flavor variations you can try include adding dried orange peel, allspice, black peppercorns, turmeric, vanilla bean powder, or cocoa powder.
