A Note From Kristen

There’s something especially satisfying about pulling warm gluten-free biscuits straight from the oven, and this recipe has quickly become one of my favorites to make. I usually serve these butter swim biscuits for breakfast just as they are, still warm with all those buttery golden edges, but they’re just as good alongside soups, dinners, or holiday spreads. They come together with simple ingredients and bake up soft, fluffy, and rich every single time, which is exactly why I keep making them on repeat. Happy baking!

Key Ingredient Notes

A few quick notes on the ingredients that matter most. Find the full ingredient list and instructions in the recipe card below.

  • Gluten-Free All Purpose Flour with Xanthan Gum: Since we’re making gluten free butter dip biscuits, make sure the flour you use has xanthan gum. This acts as a food stabilizer and gives the biscuits structure in place of gluten. You can add a small pinch separately if your gluten-free flour blend doesn’t contain it.

Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven. Spoon the dough directly into the melted butter, then gently spread it into an even layer with a spatula. Some of the butter will rise up around the edges and over the top, which helps create those crisp golden edges.

Tips for the Best Butter Swim Biscuits

  • Stir the dough just until combined. Overmixing can make the biscuits dense instead of soft and fluffy.
  • The dough should stay thick and sticky. Avoid adding extra flour unless absolutely necessary.
  • Let the biscuits rest for about 5 minutes before slicing to help them set up and hold their shape better.
  • Don’t worry if the butter bubbles up around the edges while baking. That’s what gives these biscuits their signature crisp, buttery crust.
  • For the best texture, serve warm straight from the pan!

Storage and Reheating
These gluten free butter swim biscuits are best enjoyed warm! However, in case of leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. You can also keep them in the refrigerator for about 5 days (though they might dry out there) or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
To reheat, simply pop them in the oven (for best results) or in the microwave (if you’re short on time).
