This Vegan Gravy recipe has to be one of the quickest and easiest recipes I’ve ever added to my blog! It truly takes very little time to have a super warm and comforting gravy to add to your favorite dishes or impress your guests! Bonus: it’s gluten-free and high in protein, too!

What Ingredients are Needed to Make Vegan White Cashew Gravy?

How to Make Vegan Gravy – Step by Step
Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour into a sauce pan over medium heat.
4. Heat while stirring continuously until it reaches desired thickness.
5. Serve and enjoy!
Cashew Gravy – Ingredient Substitutions
I do not recommend replacing cashews with any other nuts (or seeds) in this particular recipe!
If you are not a fan of nutritional yeast, you can simply omit it in this recipe.
Can I make this Easy Vegan Gravy ahead of time?
Yes! I find that this easy vegetarian gravy keeps well at room temperature for a few hours (great for serving at gatherings!) or you can make it, place it in the refrigerator and re-heat right before serving.
What should I serve with this Vegan Gravy?
This particular gluten-free gravy inspired this Vegan Meatloaf recipe of mine, and they make the perfect pair!
Biscuits or rolls.
Eggs or chickpea flour eggs.
Roasted potatoes or hash browns.
Can I/should I soak the cashews beforehand?
Soaking isn’t necessary, but if you do not have that great a quality of a blender or food processor, soaking the cashews in hot water 30 minutes prior will help achieve a smoother consistency!

Gluten-Free Vegan Gravy

Yields: approx. 2 cups gravy
- 2 cups water (470 ml)
- 1/2 cup raw cashews (75 grams)
- 2 tablespoons tapioca starch
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt or pink salt
- In a food processor or high speed blender, combine all of the above ingredients.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into a sauce pan and stir over medium heat until thickened.
- Serve, and enjoy!
- Serving: 1/4 cup
- Fat: 4.1 grams
- Calories: 66
- Carbs: 6.6 grams
- Fiber: 1 gram
